  1. Argus AAD Battery Replacement

    Note: Video states a 1-year replacement period for Argus batteries, but the manufacturer has since changed its requirement to every repack, 500 jumps or Batt Low reading.

    Two CR123A Lithium batteries are to be replaced every repack, every 500 jumps or when the unit displays Batt Low or Batt Rpl.

    Unscrew Phillips head closing screw. Remove old batteries. Insert new batteries noting the polarity marks on the outside of the unit. Re-install battery back plate and tighten closing screw to snug.

  2. CYPRES User Selectable Activation Altitude

    All CYPRES 2 units manufactured or serviced after January of 2013 have received an awesome software upgrade.

    The user can now increase the activation altitude of the unit by increments of approximately 100 feet. Maximum increase of activation altitude is 9 steps so approximately 900 ft. These increments or steps are designated by an A (for altitude) and a number times 100. Thus A1 signifies 100 feet above the standard CYPRES activation altitude, A2 signifies 200 feet above and so on. A0 signifies the standard activation altitude.

    Student mode is set to fire at 29 mph and 750 ft AGL.
    Expert mode is set to fire at 78 mph and 750 ft AGL
    Tandem mode is set to fire 75 mph and 1900 ft AGL
    Speed mode is set to fire at 102 mph and 750 ft AGL

  3. CYPRES2 C2 0113 Service Bulletin Update

    July 2013 CYPRES2 Service Bulletin. IMPORTANT Follow-Up to CYPRES 2 Service Bulletin C2 0113 – Additional included serial numbers and other important information. In a follow-up to Service Bulletin C2 0113, beginning this month (July 2013), Airtec GmbH & Co. KG and SSK Industries, Inc. are accepting CYPRES units affected by the Service Bulletin for premature updates. In order to proceed in an orderly manner and to not create a backlog, which would delay the return of your CYPRES, only units which were manufactured from September 2012 to December 2012 are being accepted at this time.   4. Argus Ruggedized Kit Installation

    The Argus Ruggedized Kit consists of a black metal face plate, stainless steel button and super glue. This kit protects LCD display screen against routine knocks to the display from use, packing or transportation.

    12 small dots of super glue are placed around the outside edge of the face of the unit. 5 along top, 5 along bottom and 1 on each side.

    The button is centered on the logo, where the current press-button is located. No super glue is used to hold the button in place.

  5. Overview of Argus Operations

    The Argus is manufactured by Aviacom in Belgium. It has three parts: Processing Unit, Cutter and Control Unit. The Argus turns on with 4 button pushes. The first wakes it up, which is followed by a HELLO. The Logo, ARG and US will then flash in sequence. As each part flashes, press the button. If you are too fast or slow with the flash sequence, it will turn back off with a Bye Bye. The unit will give the status on 3 checks during startup: Battery, Cutter and System. A check mark indicates each part is in working order. An error will be shown followed by a shut-off. If everything is in working order, the unit will show the current mode. The unit is on for 14 hours before the automatic shut-off, or you can manually turn it off before 14 hours. Continue reading
  6. Argus Menu Item: Config

    With the unit on, press the button twice and select the Menu option and then Config option. Items under this menu item include: Alt Unit (Meters or Feet), Sys Unit (Metric or U.S.), Time Cfg (time and date settings), Log Mode (Normal or Trace). Confirm after changing the altitude, system or log mode. The date and time updates are completed when you finish with entering the year. Continue reading
  7. Argus Cutter & Display Replacement

    Both the display and cutter are secured through a screw-on connection. The cutter has a 3-prong connection. The display has a 4-prong connection. Once the new cutter and/or display has been installed, turn on unit to verify the Argus unit passes the systems checks. Continue reading
  8. Argus Menu Item: Info

    With the unit on, press the button twice and select the Menu option and then Info option. Select Jump for info on your skydives and Admin for info on your unit. Jump: Jump info such as number of jumps, last freefall time, total freefall time, vertical speed, temperature, barometric pressure and the number of times the unit has fired. Continue reading
  9. Argus Menu Item: Modes

    How to change the mode on an Argus AAD. Mode Sel: With the unit on, press the button twice and select the Menu option and then Modes option. Select Mode Sel option and choose from Standard, Novice, Tandem or Swoop. Press the button at the appropriate mode you want to use. Follow that by pressing the button when Confirm is shown. Wait several seconds for the unit to display the mode you selected. If the proper mode is selected, then it is ready to use. If not, repeat the process until you’ve selected the correct mode.     • STD: 820 ft/78 mph
    • NOV: 1000 ft/45 mph
    • TAN: 2200 ft/78 mph
    • SWOOP 820 ft/78 mph/Standby upon parachute opening.

  10. Argus: Filters, Screw and Ring

    One filter is located on the inside on the battery back plate. A second filter can be installed on the outside of the battery back plate for swoopers who may get the unit wet on a regular basis. To replace the filter, pick the old filter off and stick the new filter on. The filter or filters must be replaced after getting wet and/or damaged. Once a filter is removed, it can not be used again. The closing screw is a small Phillips head screw that secures the back plate to the Argus unit. It should be snug/hand tight. Continue reading
