The Cookie G4 Skydiving Wind Tunnel Helmet!

The Cookie G4 helmet is the latest, must-have, impact-rated, full-face helmet for skydivers and wind tunnel flyers alike. Jumpers are raving about the G4 comfort, quality, easy-of-use, flip-up lens security, color options, ventilation and protection.

G4 Features:

  • Certified to Skydiving and Wind Tunnel Helmet Standard XP S 72-600
  • Same superior viewing area as the G3
  • Revamped internal design for a better fit
  • Easy fitting of audible altimeters
  • Longer shell back offers more coverage for head protection
  • More protection around the temple area as the visor mechanism is also thinner
  • Visor mechanism is similar in operation to the G3 but designed to offer no extra maintenance
  • Very quiet inside as it seals better in all areas and the exterior shape is sleek and smooth by design
  • No glue holding the chin curtain in place
  • Cool inside due to the ventilation design
  • Ventilation control can be adjusted by the user
  • One visor fits all G4 helmets sizes
  • Includes cloth helmet bag with mesh vent to allow moisture to evaporate

The liner is removable and washable. The helmet liner material has also been tested to ensure that its chemical makeup is safe against the wearers skin. The adjustment of the neck skirt is the same as the G3, although Cookie located the adjustment end in an easier place to facilitate this.

The internal Expanded Poly Propylene (EPP) foam has been styled to create channels within the helmet to provide ventilation. The top padding also has breathable material to allow the hot air to be drawn into these channels. The chin bar actuators can control the airflow to your mouth area as well as direct to the inner surface of the visor. Two rear ventilation ports allow the evacuation of this hot air from within the helmet.

The G4 audible pockets are larger in size than the G3, and provide easier audible access.

One visor size fits all of the G4 helmet sizes. Visors have an anti-fog inside and anti-scratch outside. Cookie offers separately available tinted, orange mirror and blue mirror visors, available at this link on ChutingStar.com. The G4 visor is tested for its optical qualities, has been certified and carries a CE mark. The visors are certified for optics, anti‐fog and resistance to penetration. The tinted and mirror visors are tested for the ability to prevent sun glare. The test standard for the sun glare is ISO 12312‐1:2013 and the tinted and mirror visors are certified under Filter Category 2 (Good Protection against Sun Glare). The visors have an impact rating under the Skydiving Helmet Screen ECP-001 06/2019 at 90m/s, and also passed tests on fogging, luminance, optical quality and UV.

The visor is very simple to remove. Undo the two side plates screws on both sides of the visor. Remove these plates and slide the visor forward.

You can accessorize your G4 helmet with many additional side plate color and engraving options. The G4 comes standard with black ABS side plates. See the separate ordering link for the G4 Aluminum Side Plates at this link. With a larger foot print, you can add your own custom engraving, available at this link.

The G4 visor takes less force to open than the previous G3 visor. The G4 visor is integrated into the helmet for extra rigidity compared to G3 and allows the mechanism to do less work. There is extra redundancy in terms of screws with little or no maintenance needed for the stainless steel springs and screws. Due to the new design, Cookie does not envision that the mechanism will require maintenance, and is expected to last the life of the helmet

The G4 Helmet is certified to a Skydiving and Wind Tunnel Helmet Standard. To achieve this standard, helmets must pass Impact and Snag Resistance testing. While the G3 Roller mount, FlySight Mount and other mounting options are a good fit against the top surface of the G4, it was not tested according to the XP S 72-600 Standard. Cookie believes that having any extra mount fitted to the G4 helmet would forgo the Snag Test in this standard. It is up to the user to decide whether to add an external mount to the G4 helmet knowing that by doing so, it could affect the way the helmet performs when tested to the XP S 72-600 Standard. Since Cookie knows many users will assume the risk of adding mounts onto the G4, they have included a trap-door cutout in the EPP foam for the user to gain access to the top of the shell to make it easier to add external mounts.

The XPS 72-600 is a Skydiving and Windtunnel Helmet standard used for the G4. The impact testing is the same as the EN966 standard for drop height and conditioning prior to impact (5.47 m/s at roughly 1.6 meters). The impact must be less that 250G. The XPS standard also requires a SNAG test, while the EN966 does not. The XPS requires the chinstrap to be on the exterior of the shell so that a line cannot pass up the inside of the helmet, while the EN966 does not. The EN966 is a Hanggliding helmet standard and also has a penetration test, while the XPS does not require a penetration test. However, Cookie has tested the G4 helmet for penetration according to EN966 and it passes with "great results," says Cookie.

The EPP used in the G4 is a multi-impact foam. The shell is made of High Impact ABS. There is a synergy between the shell and EPP foam to work together to achieve the helmet standard and enable the creation of a helmet with such a small volume compared to other protective helmets. If you sustain a significant impact, Cookie suggests replacing your helmet.

Available G4 helmet colors are the following matte color choices: black, white, dark blue, red, charcoal, tactical green, royal blue, lime green, electric blue, orange, purple, yellow and fluorescent pink.

Cookie has also partnered with Multicam to offer a range of camouflage helmets in the Original Multicam and Multicam Black prints. The prints are applied to the exterior of the helmet using a hydro dipping process. Hydro dipping is the water-transfer printing process that results in varied pattern, finish, and placement upon helmet components. The finish of your Multicam helmet may differ from another helmet with the same pattern. Following the dipping process, the exterior of the helmet is then applied with a matte clear finish.

The internal liner system for the G4 is more conducive to traditional helmets and sizing does vary from the G3. Cookie is working on youth large and medium sizes for heads 51-53 cm. These smaller youth sizes should be available in the later half of 2019, pending testing. Current sizing is as follows (an image is also shown in the photos section above):

  • Youth Medium (49-50 cm or 19.25-19.75 in)
  • Youth Large (51-52 cm or 20-20.5 in)
  • XS (53-54 cm or 20.5-21.25 in)
  • Small (55-56 cm or 21.5-22 in)
  • Medium (56-57 cm or 22-22.5 in)
  • Large (57-58 cm or 22.5-22.75 in)
  • XL (59-60 cm or 23.25-23.5 in)
  • 2XL (61-62 cm or 24-24.5 in)

The liners can be swapped within the same shell size. The Small shell size is used for the Youth Medium, Youth Large, XS & Small liners, the Medium shell size is used for the Medium and Large liners and the Large shell size is used for the XL and 2XL liners.

G4 liners are removeable and washable. You can wash in warm water by hand, no machine washing. Allow liner to air-dry. Do not detach chin pad from head liner, or you will have a very difficult time routing the spectra cord back through the liner.

So comfortable and fits perfectly. I was a medium G3 and im the same size in G4. Visor is larger and easy to open and close. I like that more of the back of my head is covered. Pockets for my audible are deep and i am not bothered by being poked in the side if the head with it. Looks awesome especially with my blue mirror visor and cute pink side plates!

This is my first full face helmet, and I am amazed. It fits nicely and the padding is very comfortable.
Pretty much 99.999% unobstructed vision field. So no blind spots! The visor is clear, secure, and easy to operate. The adjustable vents make it comfortable to wear on hot days, even with my choice to buy a black G4. Under canopy, I open the visor. Super easy. It's pretty quiet in free fall. In a noisy 182, it isn't sound proof on the ride up, but I throw in earplugs for those jumps.

Only negative is the high price point, but the impact rating justifies it. Slightly heavier than a G3, but I have never worn a G3. Not heavy enough for me to notice or complain about. Highly recommend this helmet.

I did a bit of research before purchasing the Cookie G4 helmet. I wanted to make sure the amount I was spending matched the quality of the product. I was impressed with the helmet as soon as I opened it up. The color was vibrant, super comfortable and snug. Spend the money on the G4 not only for it being a solid product, but because chutingstar offers $0 shipping. Makes it that much sweeter!

I have over an hour tunnel time in the G3 XL with no complaints. My head measures 58cm, which is a size L in the G4. It doesn't fit-way too tight, so I am returning it for an XL. Other reviewers have said they have gone the opposite way but it didn't work for me. Looking forward to receiving the exchange helmet.

This thing is head and shoulders above the g3. Quieter, better visor, way better venting. The fit and finish feel more refined. It does fit a size smaller than the G3. My 3 was an XL and I needed a Large in the G4. I highly recommend.

Got it for my 38th jump, I've done 12 jumps with it and coming from an open face I always forget to close it. But gosh, it's just a nice thing to have, air flow is great, breathing is easy and I also used it for 25 mins of wind tunnel. Couldn't ask for more. Really happy with it. Can only compare with G3 I used in wind tunnel for 20 mins, it's more comfortable. Price is excessive if you ask me, I have amazing motorbike helmets for less than half.

This helmet is amazing. Keep in mind this is my first helmet being new to the sport, but it makes all the difference in the air not having the wind blasting your face. Great air flow and also super quiet. Took me a couple helmets to get the right size. Definitely advise trying it on if a friend has one to cut down on returning.

  8. Best helmet on the market imo (24.5" head)

I've got a massive head, and finding a full face helmet proved to be pretty annoying because of that. I tried on the XXL Cookie G3, XXL Square1 Kiss and XXL Bonehad Aero, none fit very well. The Cookie had too small an opening, the Kiss was too tight, and the Aero (and the dynamic by extension) actually did fit. However, for the Aero I had to remove literally all the padding until it was just a carbon fiber shell (more dangerous than anything as carbon fiber shatters into shards rather than just breaking like ABS).

So, with that diatribe over, heres why the Cookie G4 is the best helmet on the market (in my opinion):

    - It's the quietest helmet I've tried, in the plane/freefall it's directly comparable to my custom-made 29db ear plugs.
    - It's the only helmet (besides the TonFly, that definitely doesn't fit me based on the measurements) that has an impact/snag rating. Bonehead can go on all they want about how carbon fiber is lighter/stronger, but I can tell you without a doubt that the Cookie will be safer on impact. It has impact foam and stronger ABS than the G3.
    - The visor is massive, larger than the G3, comparable in size to the Aero.
    - It's the only helmet that actually fits me at 24.5"!
    - It costs the same as the Dynamic ($439), yet the dynamic is an incremental upgrade to the Aero which only cost $415. They literally just upcharged to match the G4 without changing anything, despite their being a 6 year gap in release!

Overall, I'd highly recommend choosing the G4 as your next skydiving helmet, it really is the best you can get. And in a sport like this, safety is paramount!

This is my first skydiving helmet. I really like the full field of view. I was concerned that it would be distracting or limiting in some way, but I haven't experienced that at all. I bought a medium based on the posted measurements, and it is pretty tight when going on and off, but once on the fit is really nice. No complaints here!

This helmet is AWESOME once you get used to the differences! I've only flown the G3 before and there are a few things to get used to. It felt like it was going to be way too tight when I was first getting it on, but if you follow the instructions re: fitting and donning, once you get it on, it's SO comfortable. Sizing is accurate according to chart. It's much quieter, feels incredibly secure, the visor locks like a safe, and the field of vision seems wider, as well. The only cons I've experienced so far is that the height of the mouthpiece/ventilation area is higher in front of the face. It's harder to read lips when trying to communicate with others in the wind, and grabbing a quick swig of water means lifting the helmet up and off the chin.

I also want to shout out to ChutingStar customer service. I know they were waiting for these helmets, and they always replied to emails in a timely manner, kept me posted of expected ship dates, kept track of changes I made to my order, and sent sweet swag with the shipment. Thank you!
