Performance Designs Sabre2 Main Canopy.

Note: Please read the ordering instructions in the description below for links to the PD Stock List and Design Program.

The Sabre2 is a powerful semi-elliptical 9-cell canopy that is a great choice for current intermediate and experienced jumpers. The most popular all-around PD canopy, the Sabre2 feels aggressive at higher wing loadings but is quite tame when lightly loaded. This canopy is best known for its powerful flare and wide speed range. With neat packing and proper deployment technique, Sabre2 openings are consistently soft and predictable. The Sabre2 has a steeper glide and a longer recovery arc than the flatter gliding Pulse or Stiletto and is an excellent choice for those wanting a bit more aggressive piloting experience but are not interested in the demands of the Katana or Velocity.

Technical Information:

  • Sizes 97, 107, 120, 135, 150, 170, 190, 210, 230, 260
  • 9-cell canopy
  • All Zero Porosity fabric
  • Microline or Dacron

Characteristics:

  • Long recovery arc
  • Steep glide
  • Powerful bottom-end flare

Great for:

  • Novice to Intermediate skydivers at lighter wing loads
  • Advanced to Expert skydivers at heavier wing loads
  • Learning the basics of high performance canopy piloting at heavier wing loads (under appropriate supervision)

I have jumped the Sabre2 at 3 different wing loadings and it has been fun every time. As many people say, the openings can be a little squirrelly. It definitely encouraged me to be a better packer and focus on body positioning at opening. It flies awesome though. This is the most popular canopy out there, because it is consistent, relaible, and a blast to fly! The power flare makes the landings great landings oat any wing loading I have used. From high performance landings to new skydivers, the Sabre2 is a canopy that everyone can benefit from.

I've flown a few of these in a big range, from a 210 when I was new to a 170, 150, 135 and 120 and like I said, it's just so damn good. The flare power is there all the way across the range, from the first little tug to the stab at the bottom if you need it, PD's Sabre2 has taught me so much about canopy flight. The canopy damn near talks to you if you're listening. While I say PD couldn't have done a much better job at getting it right there's one thing I don't like and that's the openings. Just about every jump I've done on every size of Sabre2 had end cell closure openings and never consistently just left, right or both sides... it's a guessing game on every jump BUT I guess that'll keep you sharp :-) I recommend this wing and then some at any size a person needs. Kudos PD

This is a REALLY fun canopy to fly. The openings can be a little sporty but it will teach you to be a careful packer and fly your body through the opening sequence. Once you are under canopy and you have stowed your slider you are ready to have some fun. Front riser, rear riser or toggle turns this canopy is responsive. My first jump on this canopy I did my standard front riser/hip turn to final and it was a whole new experience. Fast and fun. Even though lightly loaded it gets a decent swoop. Very predictable in its handling characteristics across the spectrum. Bottom line - you won't regret jumping a Saber 2.
