Extremely tear resistant - despite a small diameter.
The CYPRES Pull-up Cord is not like the others. It is a special pull-up cord for the reserve pack job and is made of the same material as the loop. It stands out by its strong tear-resistant quality.
This CYPRES Reserve Container Pullup Cord is 60" in length. This cord has a breaking strength of 450 pounds.
Airtec, the manufacturer of CYPRES, has been at the forefront of skydiving safety for decades. During the early development of the CYPRES 1, inventor Helmut Cloth and his team recognized a better solution was needed for the reserve closing loop. At the time, the industry standard was gutted para-cord, or Type III. As the design team at Airtec investigated all of the parachute harness container options available on the market and their opening characteristics, they concluded there was room for improvement. Helmut worked with a fabric mill in Germany and together they came up with the CYPRES loop material.
The loop material is very strong, thin, and flexible, and it can be finger trapped. It is also smooth and slippery, retaining these characteristics even when kept under tension in the container for long periods. The closing loop passes through the grommets of the reserve container and pilot chute. Upon manual activation of the reserve ripcord, or activation of an AAD, these grommets must clear the reserve closing loop to release the spring-loaded pilot chute and open the reserve container.
Helmut concluded that this smaller diameter loop would apply less pressure on the grommets and reduce friction. Its smooth surface and flexibility would also allow the grommets to pass through the loop more easily. All of this helps reduce delays and contributes to a faster reserve deployment process.
This reserve loop advancement alone has saved countless lives and is completely independent of the CYPRES AAD. Today, it is the standard across nearly all harness container manufacturers and riggers worldwide.
