The Bonehead AERO Skydiving Helmet!

Bonehead Composites is proud to introduce the new full face AERO helmet! Six months of intense design work went into the design of this full face helmet from Bonehead Composites.

An AERO helmet was used in Mission Impossible: Fallout! See the trailer in the video section at the bottom of this listing.

Features making the AERO the top of the line of skydiving head gear include:

  • High-end vacuum molded carbon fiber composite shell
  • 2mm molded polycarbonate lens, also available separately in tinted gray
  • All AERO lenses are scratch resistant and anti-fog lens
  • Widest field of vision on the market that offers an unobstructed view of the jumpers face
  • Perfect for instructors
  • Compatible with eye glasses
  • Standard with easy-to-use cutaway
  • Removable and washable liner

Spring loaded CNC aluminum visor locks provide consistent and easy two handed openings and single hand closers with three screws on each side to secure the visor in place. Securing the helmet on your head incorporates a cord drawn collar and cut away buckle.

Collar adjustments are made by simply pulling slack in the cord and re-knotting . The collar is made from wetsuit neoprene and can easily be replaced with Velcro and six screw attachment points. The liner follows Bonehead's standard line in construction, which makes it removable for washing and has the convenience of audible pockets on both sides.

Any GoPro can be top mounted using the Bonehead standard GoPro mount. Any Contour camera can be side mounted with the Bonehead Aero Contour mount. The AERO makes flying with cameras safe due to its ingeniously simple quick release cutaway!

The Bonehead AERO is available in the following head sizes:

  • Small (21.75"-22.25")
  • Medium (22.25"-22.75")
  • Large (22.75"-23.25")
  • XL (23.25"-23.75")
  • 2XL (23.75"-24")

Finishes and painted solid colors for the Bonehead AERO helmet include Gloss Carbon Fiber, Matte Carbon Fiber, Gloss Black, Matte Black, Gloss Royal Blue, Gloss White, Gloss Red, Gloss Purple, Gloss Green, Matte Desert Sand, Matte Olive Drab or Gloss Silver.

Replacement lenses in clear or tinted grey and the GoPro and Contour mounts, are available separately from ChutingStar.

I love this thing. Much lighter than it looks, fits snug (if you order the right size helmet), and seals on your mandible very evenly. Most importantly, made in USA by someone who gets paid a living wage and receives benefits, as opposed to a 12 year old making five cents an hour and working 7 days a week in some third world country sweat shop. Support products that support the people who make them, don't go cheap at the expense of someone else's quality of life. Saw another review that said because this helmet is carbon fiber it isn't shock absorbing. There are many full fledged professional racing helmets that are also made out of carbon fiber, so this statement is just flat out untrue.

Bought this after trying the Phantoms and G3s and just much prefer this helmet. The field of view is much greater in the Aero than in either of the other two helmets. Another advangate over them is that it is much easier for others to see your mouth to read lips while riding in the airplane or hanging around the tunnel. The Aero is so light I don't even realize that it's on my head. Good airflow in freefall that prevents fog buildup. The only complaint I have is that I can't operate the visor with one hand, just like the Phantom and G3. Bonehead did fix this with their latest helmet, however. Strongly recommend for anyone looking for a comfortable helmet.

  3. Not Perfect by any means

Well this is an update to the previous review, but essentially I can not in good conscience recommend the Bonehead Aero for people with large heads (or anyone for that matter). I ended up having to remove all the internal padding in order to get it to fit well, and doing so meant I was literally just jumping a carbon fiber shell without any shock absorbance. Carbon Fiber, despite the hype, actually shatters into shards rather than pieces (like ABS); so if I was involved in an actual accident with this helmet I'd be in far worse shape than a regular plastic helmet. Bonehead support was totally reticent when I mentioned this to them directly and were a pain to work with.

Overall, I really regretted this purchase and returned it almost immediately after I left that first review (Thanks to Chutingstar for their excellent return policy). I didn't know how to edit the last review and, looking at it again, I can't in good conscience let it remain up without an update.

  4. Perfect skydiving full-face (especially for large craniums)

I bought this for two main reasons, firstly because of the quality construction (carbon fiber and great anti fog), and secondly because of the size (its larger than the KISS or G3). On the first point I can easily say that the quality is superb: the field of vision is huge, as in its wider than my eyes can actually see, the construction is great (gloss carbon looks awesome), the cutaway is super easy (I’ve only used it on the ground though) and there’s no warping to the visor either. However, for me personally the most important aspect is fit, and that’s where this helmet comes out on top. I have a 24.5” circumference head, which is larger than an XXL for those outside the know; after trying on an XXL G3, KISS and XV I was sure I wouldn’t find anything that fit. Fortunately, Bonehead was advertised as being for larger heads and despite the Aero saying it’s size is 23.5-24”, it fits my massive skull perfectly! So I would highly recommend this helmet to anyone who wants a great full-face, especially those with big heads!

The bonehead aero is my 2nd skydiving helmet I have purchased. My first one was a Parasport Italia z1. I really loved the Z1, but it was time to retire it due to the liners falling apart and no replacement available for it. I did alot of research for my next helmet purchase and I settled on the aero and I'm so glad I did!
    Pros:
    1. The field of view is amazing on this helmet! The view is way better than the z1 and no distortion on the lens like some other helmets I have tried on. Also the helmet does not cover your mouth so its easier to communicate during skydives or on the wind tunnel.
    2. Fit is perfect. It comes with extra foam shims to fit it exactly to your head. Also if its too tight, you can remove the foam shims as well. So just measure your head on the sizing chart and order it. I was worried about size too.
    3. Built in cutaway: This comes standard on the aero unlike most other helmets on the market. Extremely easy to pull by yanking on a tab
    4. Quality and Materials: The helmet is molded carbon fiber and super lightweight unlike other helmets that are made of cheap plastic. I believe the carbon fiber is also more tougher than cheap plastic. Also it is made in the USA!

Cons: the price, but you get what you pay for. And this helmet is definitely worth the money for the awesome quality! You will not regret it.
Another con may be that the helmet is a bit bigger than your typical helmets, but I don't mind it at all.

After struggling with an old full face helmet that I had picked up used, I finally spent the $ and ordered the AERO. Should have ordered the AERO sooner! I jumped it for the first time at a tracking course and the helmet was fantastic. The field of vision is amazing and I was able to wear sunglasses without problem. The adjustable padding is great. The visor stays put when down but opens easily under canopy. If you have struggled with the fit of a Cookie G3 or opening the visor of the G3 (like I did), consider the AERO. I had initially ordered a size L and it was too big (even though my measurements fit a size L) and Chuting Star customer service was amazing and exchanging for a size M was super easy. Great customer service and fast responses.

I've jumped an AERO for 300 jumps. So far, the liners are as good as new, and the locking mechanism for chin strap and visor hasn't failed once. The built-in cutaway is what makes this full face stands out the most. The FOV is also best in the industry. Contact BH directly and they'll even provide a visor with very dark tint and the customer service is awesome. Finally, the carbon fiber shell extends past your ears giving your head more protection.
