The N3 is our most popluar "all-in-one" digital visual and audible altimeter.
The N3 features an anodized aluminum case, rechargeable battery, mini-USB connection, rugged glass lens and is waterproof. The N3 stores 2500 summary logs and 200 detailed logs. It allows you to name your DZ, aircraft and alarm settings. The N3 has 8 selectable alarm groups and allows you to customize your alarm tones and independently set measurement units.
Approach alarms are available under canopy, or you can customize the tone sequences using the companion software. Altitude, speed, and temperature measurement units can be set independently, making the N3 adaptable to the units of measure in use anywhere in the world. It comes with all the accessories needed for a variety of mounting options.
Includes case for wrist or hand mount, wrist and hand mount velcro and USB computer connection cable.
Currently available in black only. Manufactured by Alti-2 in DeLand, Florida, across the street from ChutingStar-DeLand.
The average lifespan of the N3 battery should be 500 charges or 10 years (based on charging it once a week if needed). You should only charge the battery when it’s near empty; doing so will help ensure the longevity of the battery’s life. If for any reason the battery is not performing as it should and you’re the original owner, the units have a ten year warranty that covers the battery.
Note for night jumps: The N3 is primarily designed to be used as a visual OR audible altimeter. The unit will not support both the backlight and alarms being active at the same time. For safety reasons the alarms are given priority. If you are using the unit as a visual for a night jump, make sure your freefall and canopy alarms are disabled. (If the alarms are not disabled, the backlight will go out during the period that an alarm is sounding).
Add the Paralog Software for expanded download and logging features. Available separately through ChutingStar.com.

I LOVE my N3. It's my first digital altimeter, I was able to demo one (thanks Greg Windmiller) and was instantly hooked. There are so many things that the N3 does that are exceptionally helpful for a new skydiver like myself.Price Durability Quality
Gives you the exact altitude. Yes, seems a given but with the analog altimeters, they could be off hundreds of feet which is huge when learning to recognize different altitudes and for the landing pattern.
It tells you your speed in freefall. I know now what speed I am solo doing belly flying, doing freestyle, doing 2 ways, 4 ways etc. I also now know how long it takes my canopy to open (huge in deciding my opening & hard deck).
It tells you your speed under canopy which is major when reviewing your jumps and landings as far as canopy performance and response. I had 2 jumps in particular that were a little stressful and when I saw the speed I was going compared to my average I understood why.
Audible canopy alarms. These are great for me because I have a terrible time judging my altitude. With the audible alarms I know what altitude I am at without having to look at my wrist which helps me to get a better visual/memory of my altitudes.
The only downsides are the Paralog software (it doesn't like my computer), a dust cover for the port would be cool and if the sun hits it at the right angle, you can't see the display but that's easily fixed. Except for the software, very minor things and the good FAR outweighs the bad. Amazing tool that I don't ever plan on being without. (Posted on 5/14/12) - just perfect Review by konioa

Good choice for every skydiver who wants not only altimeter but hand or wrist-mount computer :)
You will be able to connect your altimeter to computer, charge your device, download and upload jumps, customise the behaviour. But, please note, that manufacturer-provided SW only allows to customise :) Want to download logbook - purchase Paralog software. Actually, it may be downloaded and user for free :)
TTY (serial-usb) protocol for logbook retrival is proprietary. WTF!
The device does not have reset button. Why? Probably. it's not necessary due to high reliability. Probably, Watch Dog Timer is the solution for newer devices.
Another question - about battery. It's embedded and may only be replaced by manufacturer. Li-ION batteries have 2-3 years of life. After that, they loose their capacity and should be replaced. I hope it's not so expensive.
pros:
1. very good and useful product
2. easy-to-use and functional
3. good design and package
4. water-resistant
cons:
1. embedded battery
2. non-free logbook retrival software
3. backlight is switched on only for 3 seconds (Posted on 7/21/11)
