Aviacom's Argus is the latest AAD in production for skydivers. The Argus is the first AAD to have a swoop mode that inactivates the cutter after the initial canopy deployment. It is also the first unit to have a “over-the-counter” lithium batteries as the power source. The Argus is a multi-mode AAD, which allows the user to set the unit to Swoop, Standard, Student or Tandem and change that setting at anytime. The Argus is the smallest and most compact unit available.
The Argus does not have a set lifetime, but must pass a functional test every four years. The battery must be replaced at each repack. The functional test of the unit is required every 4 years from the date of manufacturer ($140) and can be sent to several different service centers throughout the U.S. (including ChutingStar). The unit has a menu screen with a variety of options. The unit is water resistant. The control unit, cutter, battery and water filter are field-replaceable by riggers. Users can access their jump numbers, freefall time and freefall speed on the Argus.
Argus AADs are always in stock at ChutingStar! Our Argus units in stock were from the last batch manufactured in May 2011. Argus has currently put it's production of new sport Argus AADs on hold, but is continuing to support its units through parts and service.
The once optional ruggedized display upgrade is now standard on all units manufactured after January 2010. This display has a bigger pushbutton, a better click feeling and protects the display screen against harsh handling. This display features an aluminum face plate with stainless-steel push-button. It is suitable for demanding environments such as military, tandem rigs, student rigs and rental gear. It is also a great addition for sport jumpers due to the wide varieties of exposed display placements on rigs and the need for a traditional push-button operation.

I just hope I never have to test it's actual functionality...Quality Price Durability
About 10 months after I bought this brand new, it failed the "System" startup check and had to go in for "maintenance". To be fair, this is my first, and only experience with an AAD. I like that I can set it between swoop and standard mode, the batteries are easy and cheap to replace, and that it's reasonably simple to operate. I do not, however, like that after owning it for 10 months, I had to dish out $20 for shipping to have it fixed, and had to jump AADless for about a month. Also, I'm not 100% comfortable using a fail-safe device that failed for an "unknown pressurization issue" that was just reset instead of completely replaced :-\ (Posted on 9/9/10)
