The Chroma Visual Altitude Indicator.

It's the next generation in altitude awareness and is the perfect backup altitude indicator tool.

The Chroma is an altitude awareness indicator that shows your current altitude "zone" with an intuitive color indicator light! The LED lights of the Chroma are designed to be placed in a skydiver's field of vision and are easily seen at any time of the day or night.

Always being aware of your general altitude can speed your decision making in the faced-paced sport of skydiving. Whatever your discipline, you use altitude information to make better decisions faster and safer. Many experienced skydivers develop an internal altitude clock and rely on it so heavily that they only glance at their altimeter occasionally, which can lead to a catastrophe given human error. The Chroma is a convenient and intuitive way to keep your internal clock in check.

Chroma is a color altitude indicator that is placed in a skydiver's field of vision that provides constant altitude awareness. The box fits perfectly in a helmet's audible pocket, the cable runs between the shell and the padding and the light sticks out from the edge of the helmet, in front of the user's eye.

Chroma's LEDs indicate the following when at freefall speed:

  • Exit to 5500' (Solid Green)

  • 5500-3500' (Red/Green Alternating)

  • 3500-2500' (Solid Red)

  • 2500-1000' (Flashing Red)

  • 1000-0' (Off, No Light)

Features of the Chroma:

  • Always On: After inserting the battery, the Chroma requires no interaction from the user. Simply place the unit in your helmet and forget about it.

  • Intuitive: Familiar colors for altitude (Green = safe freefall altitude, Red = deployment and hard deck) are easy to understand.

  • Constant: The LEDs are giving information about important altitude changes throughout the entire skydive. You always know which "zone" you are in.

  • Battery: A single standard "AAA" battery is cheap and easy to replace. Average battery life is approximately 150 jumps or 3 months (similar to talk time versus standby time on a cellphone).

  • The LED and cable are water resistant to withstand a splash from the swoop pond. The control box is not designed to be water resistant although being inside the helmet should shield it from exposure to water.

  • Support and Warranty: The manufacturer, Elemental Technologies, is committed to providing the best customer support. Elemental stands behind Chroma with a lifetime guarantee. If any questions or issues arise, just email for fast warranty service.

A good backup.
My first Chroma had issues with the battery contacts. Upon contacting the company they sent a new unit which has worked flawlessly. The body is smaller than most audible altimeters, making it an easy fit in my helmet. The visual indicator is bright enough to see in direct sunlight but not blinding. Down side is short battery life, but it uses standard AAA batteries.
