Racer DVD Packing Manual Raves

Jumpshack's Racer container elicits many comments from riggers due to how different it is from most other rigs on the market. At the very least, a Racer container takes a little more thought and preparation; and that is where a new DVD packing manual released by Jump Shack steps in to save the day.

I highly recommend every rigger who plans on packing even one more Racer in their lifetime purchase the Racer DVD packing manual. The packing updates, tips and techniques straight from the manufacturer are well worth the money ($15 plus shipping).

One of the best Racer manual updates involves the freebag bridle, which can be distributed in its entirety on top of the freebag sides. The last few feet of the bridle does not have to be centered under the pilot chute. This clears even more room out of the center of the container for the pilot chute to recess into the pack job. An e-mail from Jumpshack President Nancy LaRiviere confirmed that this is indeed acceptable for all Racer reserve containers.

A setup item for the Racer reserve pack job included a Velcro cover for the reserve pin cover flap Velcro, which for some reason I never thought of and found myself always battling the hook Velcro on the cover. The rigger on the DVD also clamped hemostats on the canopy protector flaps through the grommets, which leaves a clear channel for the bodkin and compresses the freebag at the same time.

The Racer quick loop can be tightened using a packing paddle and leverage from the bottom of the container as well as pinching the rig between your knees to tighten at the top.

Lastly, the DVD is also just a great demonstration of a clean, neat and organized reserve canopy flake, fold and pack. This is another great teaching tool for upcoming riggers on tips and techniques for packing a reserve canopy for any rig.
